Speed Sensor Error on Levociraptor Gen4? How to Fix

Speed Sensor Error on Levociraptor? How to Fix

This guide is only for the Levociraptor Gen4 for Specialized Levo Gen4 (3.1 motor). It takes about 2 minutes and should diagnose any speed sensor error that appears immediately after installing this kit.

How to avoid it:

If you have not bought this kit yet or are waiting on a delivery, you can prevent this error from happening by following these 3 simple steps:

  • Separate the blue connector with a gentle twist by hand. Never use tools.
  • Line up the notch & arrows on the outside before pushing the two halves together (see image below)
  • Never force the connector if it doesn't slide together easily

Error After Installing - Here's what you'll see

Your bike's display shows SPEED SENSOR ERROR › CHECK APP.

In the Specialized app, the error appears as L4-M-1024: "Motor detected an issue with the magnet or speed sensor."

What causes it

With the Levociraptor Gen4 fitted, this error is almost always caused by damaged pins in the blue speed sensor connector on the Levociraptor lead. The pins can get bent or pushed in if the connector is pulled apart with a tool, or pushed back together without lining it up first.

Step 1: Check the pins on the blue connector

  1. Turn the bike off.
  2. Unplug the blue speed sensor connector on the Levociraptor lead. It's designed to come apart with a gentle twist by hand. Never use pliers or force it.
  3. Look closely at the pins on the male (blue) end.

A healthy connector has 4 straight pins, evenly spaced, that line up with the holes in the female port.

A damaged connector has pins that are bent, pushed in, missing or out of line. If you look closely, you'll see the pin has been bent. This is due to the male & female ports not being lined up properly with the notch.

Step 2: If the pins look straight

  1. Reconnect the blue connector, lining up the notch first, and push it fully home.
  2. Check the speed sensor magnet on the rear disc is clean and undamaged.
  3. Restart the bike and check the speed reads correctly on the display.

If the error comes back, contact us (Step 3) and we'll help you find the cause.

Step 3: If the pins or connector are damaged, send us a clear photo

Severely bent pins like in the example above usually can't be reliably straightened, and trying can make things worse. Please don't attempt it.

Instead, contact us or email support@ebiketuner.com with:

  • your order number
  • a clear, close-up photo of the pins on both halves of the blue connector
  • a photo of the error on your display or in the app

We'll check your photos and confirm whether the connector is the cause. If it is, you can buy a replacement speed sensor lead from us.

Please note: damaged pins aren't covered by the warranty. Every Levociraptor connection is tested before it ships, so pin damage happens during fitting or removal. If the damage is only minor, it may be possible to realign them but check with us first before doing so.

How to avoid this happening again

  • Separate the blue connector with a gentle twist by hand. Never use tools.
  • Line up the notch before pushing the two halves together.
  • Never force the connector if it doesn't slide together easily

Still stuck? Contact us with photos of your connector and we'll take a look.
